چکیده

AIEWRACT-The pyrolysis of general biomass materials is modeled via a superposition of cellulose, hcmiccllulosc and lignin kinetics. All three of the primary biomass components arc modeled with multi-slcp kinetics involving both compcte-tivc primary pyrolysis and secondary tar decomposition reactions. Only " typical " (untreated) fccdstocks arc considered at at mosphcric pyrolysis pressures. The kinetics schcmc is then coupled to the porous particle model of Miller and Bcllan (1 996) along will] appropriate properties and heats of reaction to provide a cotnplctc model for the pyrolysis of arbitrary biomass fccdstocks and satnplc sizes. Comparisons with past isothermal and thcrmogravimct~ cxpcrimcnts for a variety of biomass materials under both kinetically controlled and diffusion limited conditions show favorable agrccmcnt with the model predictions. In additiolk discussions arc provided which support the usc of compctctivc char production kinc~ics over sing]c and successive reaction schcmcs which cannot currently bc reconciled with observed pyrolysis behavior. Cellulose–Hemicellulose and Cellulose–Lignin Interactions during Fast Pyrolysis

Previously, the primary product distribution resulting from fast pyrolysis of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin was quantified. This study extends the analysis to the examinations of interactions between cellulose−hemicellulose and cellulose−lignin, which were determined by comparing the pyrolysis products from their native mixture, physical mixture, and superposition of individual component...

The integration of dilute acid hydrolysis of xylan and fast pyrolysis of glucan to obtain fermentable sugars

BACKGROUND Fermentable sugars are important intermediates in the biological conversion of biomass. Hemicellulose and amorphous cellulose are easily hydrolyzed to fermentable sugars in dilute acid, whereas crystalline cellulose is more difficult to be hydrolyzed. Cellulose fast pyrolysis is an alternative method to liberate valuable fermentable sugars from biomass. The amount of levoglucosan gen...

Kinetic Modeling, Simulation, and Optimization of Pyrolysis

Thermal decomposition of organic matter under inert atmospheric conditions, leading to the release of volatiles and formation of cha is called as pyrolysis. It is also a first step in the biomass gasification. To design of a suitable pyrolysis reactor, understanding of kinetic parameters is essential. In the proposed kinetic model of this study, biomass decomposition is represented as a decompo...

Biomass pyrolysis liquid to citric acid via 2-step bioconversion

BACKGROUND The use of fossil carbon sources for fuels and petrochemicals has serious impacts on our environment and is unable to meet the demand in the future. A promising and sustainable alternative is to substitute fossil carbon sources with microbial cell factories converting lignocellulosic biomass into desirable value added products. However, such bioprocesses require tolerance to inhibito...

Quantitative Insights into the Fast Pyrolysis of Extracted Cellulose, Hemicelluloses, and Lignin

The transformation of lignocellulosic biomass into bio-based commodity chemicals is technically possible. Among thermochemical processes, fast pyrolysis, a relatively mature technology that has now reached a commercial level, produces a high yield of an organic-rich liquid stream. Despite recent efforts to elucidate the degradation paths of biomass during pyrolysis, the selectivity and recovery...
